Last Tuesday 29th April saw around twenty STEMM women come together to boost their skills, knowledge and confidence when presenting to audiences, in person and online.

Priya Kalia, MD of SciTribe, took to the stage, making the point that actually, presenting is a performance of sorts. She led by example and entertained us all with stories, examples of what to do and what not to do, bringing her points alive at every stage.

Priya proved that there are lots of tricks and methods to help you communicate your message - using movement, changes in speed and strength of voice, as well as employing engaging visuals. She also took time to find out more about the audience's experiences, good and bad, and to suggest tips for managing anxiety while speaking.

She then opened up the floor to questions and it was striking how open, honest and encouraging all of the participants were with each other. The event had an incredibly warm atmosphere which created a safe space for voicing issues and advice leading to a truly collaborative workshop.

Beyond the hints and tips from our presentation expert, everyone gained massively from making new connections in a highly supportive, non-judgemental and welcoming environment. So, thanks again to all those who came along, as well as to the wonderful Priya Kalia - we can't wait to host the next one!
